Aggie Ford is at a breaking point, barely co-existing with her fourteen-year-old daughter Stella, a young son, a dim half-brother who’s haunted by war, and a violent, lecherous husband.

Aggie’s traumatic past and Stella’s sexual awakening collide in an epic battle that starts with murder and escalates until it shatters every one of the Fords. Set in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on the intertwining cusps of a girl’s sexual awakening and the late 1950s, This Tangle of Thorns is Misery mothers Lolita.

I have more than a decade of experience as a communications professional writing and editing for print, web, and film. I know how to build platform and manage brand through traditional and social media. I’m also well connected with the incredible and extensive literary community in the Twin Cities. Judges for the Loft Literary Center’s Mentor competition selected an early excerpt from This Tangle of Thorns for honorable mention. In the last two years I’ve workshopped this novel with Mat Johnson (Loving Day), Benjamin Percy (The Dark Net), and Peter Geye (Wintering).
